    John Brace

    John is responsible for leading Northland’s executive team. He has been with Northland since 1988, where he has held various positions in risk management, development, construction and operations, and has served as CEO since 2005.

    John guides Northland’s strategy of being one of the few North American Independent Power Producers that owns and operates its facilities for the long-term, in order to provide stable and sustainable dividends to its employees, investors and shareholders.

    Our second annual Summer Mixer was a huge success! Over 60 Queen's engineers attended, with more than 1/3 of those being current students. A memorable night filled with good beer, some (quickly disappearing) snacks, and great company. Be sure to make it out next year!

    Queen's Young Engineering Alumni is launching the third year of the GPA Society this June! To launch this cause, we wanted to give you a glimpse into some of the benefits of QYEA curated talks and events. We invite you to join us for a TEDx Talk and tour at Google Canada with Adam Green, Sci'03

    Adam Green runs creative advertising agency relations for Google Canada which means he helps Don Draper make cool stuff on the internet. Prior to Google Adam worked as a management consultant, a renewable energy sector entrepreneur / engineer and an analyst in the computer hardware industry. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University and is a proud grad school drop-out. When he's not working you can likely find him outside skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing or playing in the park with his daughters.

    Bill MacGowan is the Director, Smart Building Digitization for Cisco’s Industry Transformation Business Division in Canada. William has extensive experience within the AEC (Architects Engineers Constructors) Space and is intimate in the design, implementation and operation of dynamic building systems. William has been intimately involved with the progress of open data communication standards and converged base building networks. William has deep knowledge in the areas of Converged Building Systems, Enterprise Integration and the Delivery of High Performance Business Value. William is an honors graduate of the Queens University Electrical Engineering Program and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) with the American Energy Engineers (AEE) Association. William resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Ballroom is a games-centric bar featuring air hockey, billiards, and ping pong. Join us on the 17th for an afternoon of networking, drinks, and friendly competition between years!

    Sponsored by Randstad Engineering, this year’s event will include keynote speeches by John Stetic (Sci ’97), Group Vice-President for Oracle Marketing Cloud, and Manjulah Selvarajah (Sci ’93), Associate Producer for CBC Radio’s Metro Morning.

    QYEA invites you to the 2014 Welcome Back Event: Chili Cookoff and Beer Experience

    Don't miss your chance to attend one of our biggest events this year! Join your fellow young alumni as we welcome our newest graduates and open the doors wide open to all the ambition, ideas and enthusiasm that come with Queen's Engineering.

    This year’s event will feature talks from two of QYEA’s Inspiring Alumni for 2014-15: Paul Teshima and Paul Goddard.

    In addition, QYEA is hosting its first ever chili cookoff and a beer tasting courtesy of The Beer Academy. You can sign up to enter the Chili contest with friends - challenge your friends and fellow alumni on Facebook and Twitter!

  • Annual September Event

    The QYEA Annual September Event has been a mainstay since 2011. Hosted at venues such as The Spoke Club and Brassaii, the event aims to look at the talent and experience of Queen’s Engineers. We have welcomed CEOs of major mining companies, founders of homegrown tech companies now operating around the world, executives from some of Canada’s top companies and leaders in constitutional law, employee performance and human capital, sustainable energy and clean technology.

  • QYEA Career Day

    QYEA’s extremely successful Career Day in 2012 was aimed at virtually anyone – those just starting out, considering graduate school or looking for inspiration to launch their own business. The event brought together a varied set of speakers, including:

    • Mary Ann Turke (Sci '88, EVP at Bell Canada),
    • David Masotti (Sci '85, Co-founder & Executive Chairman Dreyfus Inc),
    • Eric Lascelles (Chief Economist, RBC Global asset management)

    As well, the Career Day had nine different workshops throughout, including:

    • Is MBA/Law/MSc. right for me?
    • Going it alone – succeeding as an entrepreneur
    • Now What? – tips to successful first year as an engineer
  • Professional Development Workshops

    Started in 2013, QYEA’s series of Professional Development Workshops touched on topics vital to young alumni, such as networking and career advancement. The series was a rousing success and brought together speakers from the energy sector, sustainable development engineering, the software engineering industry, and many more.
